Upon breaking into the facility, Miles discovers something walking a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something entirely different. His only hope for escape lies with uncovering what lurks at the heart of Mount Massive.

You take on the role of investigative journalist Miles Upshur, who has ventured into Mount Massive Asylum to uncover its terrible secret. However, you soon find out that what awaits you within the walls of this asylum is far worse than you ever could have imagined; a living hell from which there may be no escape.

From your very first step inside Mount Massive Asylum, it's clear that something horrific has happened here. The atmosphere is thick with dread as darkness creeps into every corner and strange noises echo throughout the halls. As Miles, you must rely on your wits and courage if you hope to survive this nightmarish place as monsters lurk around every corner ready to strike at any moment. To make matters worse, most areas are pitch black so you'll need to scavenge for batteries or use your camera's night vision mode in order to see where you're going - but beware! This drains batteries quickly so timing and resource management become essential skills during your stay at Mount Massive Asylum.

Throughout Outlast’s story driven campaign – spanning over 8 hours – players will face numerous puzzles and challenges as they progress through each environment searching for clues about what exactly happened in this terrifying institution…if they dare!
