Gothic II is the highly anticipated sequel to Piranha Bytes' critically acclaimed Gothic. The game was released on November 29, 2002 in Germany and a year later in North America with publication by JoWooD Entertainment and Atari.
The game takes place three years after the events of its predecessor and follows the protagonist, known as "the Nameless Hero", who has been captured by an evil tyrant named Lord Hagen. Players must navigate a vast open world full of dungeons, monsters, NPCs (non-player characters) and other hazards while completing quests for various factions such as barbarians or fire mages. As players progress through the main story they will gain experience points that can be used to upgrade their character's attributes such as strength or agility.
