Sonic and the Black Knight is an action-adventure video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the Wii console. The game follows Sonic, who has been summoned by a wizard named Merlina, granddaughter of the original Merlin, to help free the mystical realm of King Arthur from an unknown evil that comes from Excalibur’s scabbard.

In order to break Arthur's curse and save the kingdom, Sonic must take up Caliburn, a talking sword which gives him access to special powers like being able to move at lightning speed and performing powerful attacks against enemies. However, in addition to taking up Caliburn he must also collect all twelve blades of King Arthur's Knights of the Round Table as well as Excalibur itself in order to restore King Arthur’s sanity and return him back into his benevolent ruler state.

The player controls both Sonic and Caliburn throughout their quest with various levels full of platforming elements while they fight through hordes of enemies controlled by The Black Knight. As they progress on their journey they will have access to new abilities such as gliding or using magical spells provided by Merlina herself which can be used against enemy bosses or puzzles blocking their path. In addition there are also “Dragon Shrines” scattered across each level where players can gain bonus items if they complete them successfully within a certain amount of time limit.
