Red Faction II is a video game set in the 22nd century on Earth, five years after a rebellion on Mars. The main antagonist, Chancellor Victor Sopot has been ruling over the Commonwealth with an iron fist for 15 years and his oppressive rule combined with an ongoing war against the United Republic has left the country in poverty. Players take control of Alias, a demolitions expert who joins forces with five other super-soldiers to overthrow Sopot's government and restore honor to the Commonwealth. Along their journey they will battle through various environments while using vehicles, specialized weapons and explosives.
