Metal Gear Online, commonly abbreviated MGO and also known as MGO2, was an online multiplayer spinoff of the Metal Gear series. Developed by Kojima Productions, it was first revealed at the 20th anniversary party for the Metal Gear franchise. Initially announced as a standalone game based on the gameplay and setting of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, it later became part of that game's release.

Gameplay in Metal Gear Online 2 revolved around team-based battles featuring two to sixteen players with customizable characters from various classes such as Scout or Infantry. Players had access to weapons such as assault rifles and shotguns and could use special items like military-grade binoculars or remote-controlled missiles to defeat their enemies. Additionally, players were able to control vehicles such as tanks or jeeps during battle. The game featured multiple maps set in different locations including Afghanistan, South America and Russia where each map contained unique objectives which could be completed in order to win a match.

Unfortunately, after four years since its initial release date (July 17th 2008), Kojima Productions shut down all official servers for Metal Gear Online 2 on June 12th 2012; however due to strong fan support there are now several private servers available for people who still want to play this classic online shooter title today!
