It takes place at some point after Gordon Freeman's victory against the alien Combine forces, and follows him as he explores City 17's aftermath. The game begins with Gordon Freeman arriving on a train from City 17 to Kleiner’s lab where he must face up to his past actions, both good and bad, while learning more about the mysterious G-Man who has been manipulating events since Half Life 1.
