Star Ocean: First Departure R is a recently released remaster of the 2007 PlayStation Portable title, Star Ocean: First Departure. The game is based on Star Ocean, which was originally released for the Super Famicom in 1996. The new version features improved graphics and sound, as well as new content such as an updated battle system and additional story elements.

The game follows the same story as its original iteration but with several improvements to help make it more enjoyable.
