In Shadow of Rome, set during 48 B.C., the player takes on the roles of Agrippa and Octavius as they attempt to restore their family's honor after Uesnius, a close advisor to Julius Caesar, is accused of Caesar's assassination. The two must venture through ancient Rome in order to uncover the truth behind the murder and halt Uesnius' impending execution by winning an upcoming gladiatorial event. To do this they will use objects from their environment and weapons like stones, slingshots, spears and swords for combat situations while Agrippa relies more on action elements while Octavius leans towards stealth and adventure aspects throughout their quest.
