The combat system uses a simple one-button scheme that offers surprising depth. Players are rewarded for kicking monsters into saws, pits and spikes through a unique checkpoint earning system: they must earn checkpoints through stylish kills instead of being evenly distributed at set locations. The more and better players kill, the faster they fill their checkpoint meter - but if they avoid combat or button mash mindlessly, checkpoints will be farther apart.
