Tharsis: A Turn-Based Space Strategy Game with Dice and Cannibalism
If you're looking for a challenging space adventure, then Tharsis is the game for you. This turn-based strategy game puts players in control of humanity's first manned mission to Mars, just as it's struck by a micrometeoroid storm. With dice and cannibalism, you must guide your crew through disasters, food shortages and the unforgiving nature of space while maintaining sanity amidst cryptic signals and warnings from Mars.
The goal of Tharsis is to reach the end of each mission alive - no easy task as your ship will suffer damage during each round played due to random events that can only be countered by using resources like Food or Oxygen wisely. You'll also need to manage your crew's health and morale levels carefully as they fend off alien creatures who want nothing more than their deaths! Along the way there are various challenges including repairing damaged equipment, launching satellites into orbit around Mars to gain access to new technology, upgrading modules on board your ship or researching ancient artifacts found on the planet’s surface.
The core gameplay mechanics revolve around managing seven dice which represent different aspects of survival such as nutrition consumption or oxygen use; these dice are rolled at every turn in order to determine how successful certain actions will be based on luck alone. If things don't go according to plan then there may be some tough decisions ahead – perhaps even resorting to cannibalism if all other options have been exhausted! It all adds up an intense experience where every decision matters greatly – making this one not for those faint hearted gamers out there!
Despite its daunting difficulty level though Tharsis still manages delivers an enjoyable gaming experience thanks largely in part due too its unique art style which takes inspiration from both film noir classics like Blade Runner 2049 & 1950s SciFi movies like The Day The Earth Stood Still . There’s something really captivating about watching a tiny astronaut venture across vast Martian landscapes accompanied by haunting soundtracks composed entirely within Reason 5 (a popular music software). Its short but sweet campaign lasts roughly 3 hours yet provides enough replay value with multiple endings depending upon how well you do throughout each playthrough so it’ll keep hardcore fans coming back again & again until they finally achieve success against impossible odds!
All in all Tharis offers a deep & rewarding gaming experience that should satisfy anyone looking for something different within the genre while offering plenty challenge those seasoned veterans out there too! Defy the odds, make difficult decisions & embark on one most important missions ever undertaken – let nothing stand between humankind & our ambition explore outer space any further costs…
