PlanetSide: An Epic MMOFPS That Will Be Remembered Forever

PlanetSide was an ambitious and revolutionary multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) that was released in 2003. For the first time ever, players could battle for territory on a massive scale with hundreds of other players from around the world. It set out to reinvent the FPS genre by incorporating large-scale warfare into its gameplay mechanics and this is something that has not been seen since.

The game featured three factions - Terran Republic, New Conglomerate and Vanu Sovereignty battling for control over ten different continents on the fictional planet Auraxis. Players take on individual roles within one of these factions such as infantry, combat vehicle crewman, invisible infiltrator or a variety of combat support roles like medic or engineer while fighting against their enemies using various weapons and vehicles in both first person perspective as well as third person perspective.

The battles were intense and dynamic affairs featuring numerous strategies employed by teams to gain superiority over their foes ranging from air raids to ground assaults which could result in complete annihilation of enemy forces if executed correctly. The sheer scale of PlanetSide’s battles made them some of the most memorable experiences ever witnessed in gaming history which will be remembered fondly even after its closure on July 1st 2016 at 4:00pm PT when Planetside servers went offline permanently after 13 years of providing gamers with thrilling warzone action .
