Heroes Chronicles: Warlords of the Wasteland follows the story of Tarnum, a leader who discovers his people's true history and leads an army against their oppressors. He marches from the wastelands of his homeland to the swamps of the lowlands in order to reclaim what is rightfully theirs and follow in the footsteps of his legendary ancestor who had driven out these spellcasters long ago. In this turn-based strategy game, players must build an army, battle for resources, and ultimately fight for freedom as they attempt to break away from tyranny.

Heroes Chronicles: Warlords of the Wasteland is the first game in the Heroes Chronicles series, and was launched on September 27th 2000. The game serves as an introduction to Tarnum's story before he became known as the Immortal Hero. Much like other games in this series, Warlords of the Wasteland is based on the engine from Heroes of Might and Magic III.

The game comes with 12 scenarios that are split into three sections; a campaign mode, a tutorial section and previews for other three Chronicles games (Heroes Chronicles: Conquest of the Underworld, Heroes Chronicles: Masters of the Elements and Heroes Chronicles: Clash of Dragons). Unlike its predecessor however there is no option to import extra scenarios or play multiplayer modes.

Warlords also contains many other features such as improved graphics from previous titles including better lighting effects and more detailed textures which help bring players further into their adventures. There are also plenty of enemies around every corner ensuring that all levels remain challenging throughout, whilst still being enjoyable for those who might be new to turn-based strategy RPGs such as this one.
