Fire Tonight is a narrative puzzle game about two people trying to find their way back together in a city on fire. Players take control of Maya, who sets out to traverse the burning metropolis by car, train, roller skate and rooftop while avoiding police barricades, traffic jams and the ever-encroaching flames. Meanwhile her partner Devin is confined to his small apartment where he anxiously awaits her arrival as he reminisces about their time together while looking at all the mementos scattered around his place.

The player's goal is to help Maya make it through the perilous environment filled with obstacles both natural and man-made that threaten her progress. Along the way she must collect items such as fuel cans or keys that will give her access to new areas of town or allow for shortcuts in order for her get closer towards reuniting with Devin before it’s too late. As players guide Maya across varying terrain they will also be presented with moral dilemmas which when solved can yield positive outcomes in addition to providing story progression .
