Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends is an expansion to the popular Dynasty Warriors 3. It involves you taking control of a military general in ancient China, each with their own unique abilities and weapons. The objective of most missions is to defeat one or more enemy generals on open battlefields by destroying hoards of differently ranked enemies.

The game offers two main modes: Musou mode and Free mode. Musou Mode is the story mode which follows seven battles that progress the storyline for each character you choose to play as. Free Mode allows you access any level previously unlocked with any character previously unlocked (you start off with three characters from three different dynasties).

Xtreme Legends expands upon the original Dynasty Warriors 3 in several ways, including featuring seven unaligned generals not found in the original, challenge modes not included before, and a bodyguard system allowing players to customize their advancement and unlockable weapons as they play through it.
