Darkspore was a video game released by Electronic Arts (EA) in April 2011 for Microsoft Windows. The game borrowed creature editing technology from the popular title Spore. It was described as a fast-paced, science fiction action-role-playing game with an emphasis on squad-based combat and multiplayer options. Players battled across alien worlds to save the galaxy from mutated forces of Darkspore.

The unique creature editor allowed players to customize their own creatures that were then used in battle against opponents. Each creature had its own strengths and weaknesses based on stats such as attack power, speed, health, armor type, etc., which could be improved over time through various upgrades available during the course of play. There were also player versus player arenas where gamers could compete against each other one on one or in teams of up to four players.

Unfortunately, EA removed the store page for Darkspore from Steam shortly after release meaning it is no longer purchasable directly through this platform but those who purchased prior still have access until servers shut down permanently in 2016 due to its DRM scheme requiring an online connection at all times while playing.. Despite this setback however many fans still enjoy playing Darkspore even today thanks largely to fan made mods created using comprehensive modding tools provided by EA themselves - allowing them to make changes and additions such as new levels or weapons not found within the original version .
