Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is the 14th installment of the long-running Ace Combat series. It takes place in an alternate timeline based on real world locations, rather than being set in a fictional universe like many of its predecessors. Players take control of various members of Task Force 108, with William Bishop being the primary protagonist, as they battle to shut down the threat posed by Russian rebel leader Andrei Markov and his forces.

Assault Horizon introduces a number of new features to the series, such as a realistic day/night cycle that affects gameplay and atmospheric weather effects that can hamper visibility during missions. The game also makes use of more contemporary aircraft models than previous installments had done before; some players have even been able to identify specific planes from their own countries due to their lifelike appearance and details.
