Players could also engage in online battles against friends or compete against AI controlled opponents via arcade mode or quest mode where they can level up their fighters by defeating computer controlled opponents at higher difficulty levels while earning coins which can be exchanged for items such as weapons and costumes for customizing their avatars .

Overall, Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution is considered one of the best fighting games ever released for PlayStation 2 and continues to be enjoyed by fans today due its classic gameplay mechanics paired with modern visuals and sound effects delivered through iconic arenas full of personality!
