The Movies is a video game that gives players the opportunity to run their own Hollywood movie studio. Players can choose to make films ranging from 1920's silent films all the way up to future films, and they have control over every aspect of production such as content, sets, actors, costumes and more. They must also hire and fire people as needed in order to make the best movies possible. In addition, players can generate promotional trailers for each film they create and deal with Hollywood stars' egos. Special effects like 3D camera techniques are available for use in-game as well, plus web pages can be created to hype up movies even further. Finally, players can put themselves or friends into the film world by creating a cheap quick production or an epic blockbuster.
