The story this time around centers on the appearance of an evil entity known as Jivatma in South Town where all the heroes converge for their own reasons. Gameplay changes include sidestepping and super canceling several moves, giving players more strategic options than ever before. Additionally, numerous backgrounds are available to unlock after beating Story Mode or completing Mission Mode or Time Attack challenges.

KOF 2006 also introduces four new characters into the mix alongside 14 secret guest stars who make appearances throughout the game’s various modes. These additional characters add even more depth to an already diverse cast that ranges from martial artists to wrestlers to street fighters and beyond – ensuring that no two battles play out exactly alike!
