The story focuses on Rintaro Okabe, a young man who is part of an underground group of inventors called Future Gadget Laboratory (FGL). Along with his friends Mayuri Shiina and Daru Hashida, they accidentally discover that their newest invention – a device known as "Phone Microwave" – can send text messages into the past to change events in the present timeline.
