The game is a collection of mini-games which make use of both motion sensing controllers as well as the PlayStation Eye camera.

Start the Party! contains around 20 different mini-games of varying levels of difficulty, with each one utilising either movement or facial recognition to interact with characters onscreen. Each game has its own unique objective; examples include zapping bugs while avoiding bombs, catching flying fruit before it hits your opponent’s plate, or even drawing shapes with your controller to create an image quickly enough before time runs out. Up to four players can play simultaneously using their own DualShock 3 controller or Motion Controller depending on what type of mini-game is being played.
