Mushihimesama (Bug Princess in English) is a vertical shooting game set in a beautiful fantasy world. The protagonist, Reco, must brave hostile creatures called Koju and traverse the Shinju Forest to meet the God of the Koju and find a cure for her people's mysterious sickness. Along with her faithful Golden Beetle companion Kiniro, she will face many challenges on her journey to save her village of Hoshifuri.

Mushihimesama is an action-packed manic shooter developed by Cave and released by Taito in 2004. This game features a unique insect theme, as all of the enemies are designed to resemble various insects such as beetles and butterflies. The setting takes place within various forest environments, making the atmosphere even more immersive than it already is.

The game was ported to the PlayStation 2 in 2005 and iOS devices in 2011, with a significant version 1.5 being released for arcades later that year. An Xbox 360 port was also released in May 2012 (with ver1.5 as first print DLC). The ports have been updated to include new levels, characters, modes, weapons and other content which further enhance the overall experience for players.

This classic title has since spawned two sequels; Mushihimesama Futari (2006) and Mushihimesama Bug Panic (iOS). Both games follow similar gameplay styles but bring their own unique elements to create interesting experiences for fans of this series or genre alike.
