Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is a video game set in the aftermath of World War II, when the world was on the brink of nuclear war during the Cuban Missile Crisis. The U.S. government had agreed to return Soviet scientist Nokolai Stepanovich Sokolov back to his native land as part of a deal that put an end to the crisis, not knowing that he was working on a nightmarish weapon. To prevent it from being completed, they dispatch FOX unit - led by former SAS member Major Zero - to capture him at his research facility located south of Groznyj Grad fortress in Russia. As their modus operandi, FOX sends one agent backed by radio support into enemy territory for solo sneaking missions.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D is an action-packed stealth game developed by Konami for the Nintendo 3DS. It is a re-release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, originally released in 2004. The game was released on February 21, 2012 in North America and March 8, 2012 in Japan and Europe. This marks the first time since 2000 that a Metal Gear title has been released for any portable system developed by Nintendo.

The digital download version of Snake Eater 3D was made available to Japanese players via the Nintendo eShop function on December 16, 2014 - exactly ten years after the initial release of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The downloadable package also features a special theme song as well as sound effects taken from other titles within the Metal Gear series. In addition, gamers can customize their home screens with wallpapers featuring logos from FOX (the developers) and folders modeled after cardboard boxes featured throughout the franchise's history.
