Familiar friends and foes like Bandana Waddle Dee and King Dedede also make an appearance as playable characters.

The Story Mode allows players to team up with a buddy (player or computer controlled) and scale a tower filled with enemies. Players can select helpful items between rounds that will power them up for their ascent. Each ability has its own distinct play style and set of moves - Cutter and Archer excel at ranged attacks while Wrestler and Fighter are better suited for close-quarters combat. Other characters like Gooey and Bandana Waddle Dee bring back old moves from previous Kirby titles, giving veterans something familiar yet fresh to experiment with!
