In Gateways, the player takes on the role of Ed, an inventor trapped in his lab after a number of his experiments have gone awry. Players must use Ed's gateway gun to explore and solve puzzles throughout the laboratory while avoiding enemies and obstacles in order to help him escape. As players progress through levels they will unlock new abilities such as creating portals that allow them to access previously inaccessible areas and time manipulation which can be used to solve complex puzzles. Gateways is an exciting new 2D platform game that takes place in the lab of an inventor called Ed. After a number of his experiments have gone wrong, you must help him escape from the lab and get back to safety. Alongside the traditional platform elements such as jumping on enemies heads and spikes are unique gateway guns. These guns allow you to create two gateways which link together either walls, floors or ceilings when passed through them. As progress is made through the game different types of gateway gun can be found with varying effects such as shrinking and growing Ed’s size or allowing him to travel back in time! In addition to these there are also power ups like torches for lighting up dark areas and mirrors for deflecting lasers.

The map within Gateways is huge and filled with puzzles, secrets, challenges and more - as more power ups are acquired even more parts of it unlock giving access to further secrets or items needed for progression. It’s easy enough for newcomers but still offers plenty challenge for experienced gamers too – with its innovative gateway guns adding another level of complexity that makes playing this game truly rewarding!
