Playing Empire Earth is a unique experience, allowing you to journey through centuries of human history. The game’s “epochs” are the ages that players can pass through during their adventures - from prehistoric times all the way up to space colonization in the future. With each epoch comes new technologies and units, giving an ever-evolving gaming experience as players progress further into the game.

Starting off in the Prehistoric Age, players must build additional structures to advance into other epochs. Costs increase as they progress, but so do resources available for gathering; with new epochs come new units which can be produced at the cost of abandoning production of old units (though any old units still alive are kept). After passing through various periods such as The Stone Age, Copper Age and Bronze Age before reaching Dark Ages and Middle Ages, then Renaissance and Imperial age followed by Industrial age and Atomic World War I & II ages - player eventually attain Digital Age and NanoAge before entering Space Age in Empire Earth: The Art Of Conquest expansion pack.

Not only does this offer gamers a diverse range of gameplay styles throughout their playthrough but also allows them to explore different facets of humanity's history across various eras.
