Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future is an action-adventure video game released in 2000 for the Dreamcast and PC. The game was developed by Appaloosa Interactive and published by Sega. It follows a young dolphin named Ecco, who must save his home from alien invaders known as “The Foe”.

At the dawn of the 30th Century, dolphins and humans had been together in a cross-species society for 500 years. But when space became dangerous due to The Foe's attempt to conquer Earth, it was left up to Ecco and his fellow caretaker dolphins to protect their planet with their creation called "the Guardian". This gigantic sentient being made of crystalline substance projected a forcefield over all of Earth in order to keep The Foe out. Unfortunately, despite this protection, The Foe still managed to make suicide attacks on the field in search of weaknesses they could exploit.

In response, Ecco sets off on an epic journey across time and space that takes him through five different eras including Ancient Greece, Atlantis, Prehistoric Times (dinosaurs!), Space Age Futurescape (space battles), and even into outer galaxies where he makes contact with friendly aliens! Along his travels he must solve puzzles such as navigating mazes or matching symbols while avoiding or battling enemies like giant squids or robotic sharks – not only do these obstacles stand between him and success but also prevent him from finding allies that can help battle against The Foe once more.

Ultimately it is up to Ecco alone whether or not he will be able to save his home from destruction once again; however players are sure to enjoy every moment learning about ancient civilizations along with engaging gameplay featuring classic platforming mechanics throughout its adventure!
