Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII is an action role-playing third-person shooter that was released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2. It is the first shooter game within the Final Fantasy series and plays from an over-the-shoulder perspective similar to Resident Evil 4, with a switchable option to a first-person perspective. Players take control of Vincent Valentine as he battles his way through enemies using firearms and swords.

Defeating enemies yields EXP, which can be used at the end of each stage either to level up Vincent's stats or to convert it into Gil—the in-game currency—which can then be used to purchase items and equipment upgrades. The game also features several minigames such as Chocobo Racing, G Bike Racing and Battle Mode where players fight against other characters controlled by AI or another player via System Link or LAN connection. There are also various sidequests available throughout the game that allow players to gain additional rewards by completing them.

The story follows Vincent who must stop Deepground, a powerful organization bent on world domination led by Weiss the Immaculate and Shelke Rui personnel member of Shinra Electric Power Company investigation team Turks; both were thought dead after their involvement in Meteorfall seven years prior. Along his journey, Vincent will come across old allies from before Meteorfall as well as new characters exclusive only for Dirge Of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII .
