Contra is a classic action video game developed by Konami in 1987. Players take on the role of two commandos, Lance and Bill, tasked with infiltrating the base of Red Falcon organization to prevent them from conquering Earth. As they progress through 8 stages set in the jungle, players are armed with a machine gun and can capture upgraded weapons such as Fireball, Laser, Rapid Fire gun or Spread Gun to defeat enemies along their way. Ultimately it is up to Lance and Bill to save the world from Red Falcon’s plans for global domination.

Contra, the classic run and gun action game from Konami released in 1987, has been an iconic part of gaming culture for more than three decades. Developed as a coin-operated arcade game on February 20th, it quickly became popular with gamers thanks to its addictive gameplay, tight control scheme and intense boss battles.

The story follows two commandos (Bill Rizer and Lance Bean) who are sent on a mission to stop the terrorist organization Red Falcon from taking over Earth. To do this they must battle their way through eight different stages set in various locations around the world while avoiding enemy fire and destroying obstacles that get in their way. The player can choose between several weapons such as spread shot guns or rapid fire lasers to help them progress further into the levels.

One of Contra's most memorable features is its two-player cooperative mode which allowed players to team up together against enemies and bosses as well as providing assistance when one player was stuck at certain points during gameplay. This feature added an extra layer of difficulty but also provided some much needed teamwork opportunities between friends trying to tackle difficult levels together.

In addition to its main release for arcades and home consoles like NES, Contra was ported onto several computer formats including MSX2 computers with enhanced graphics and sound effects making it even better than before! Various Contra sequels were produced following the original game adding new characters, weapons and environments - all maintaining the same core concept from the first title despite being slightly updated graphically each time around.
