Batman: Arkham City is the sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum, released in 2009. Set after the events of Arkham Asylum, a section of Gotham City has been turned into a prison and all its criminals are locked away, isolated from civilians. Bruce Wayne protests this but he is quickly kidnapped by Hugo Strange and forced to face off against some of the city’s most powerful villains as Batman while trying to figure out what Strange’s plans really are.

Players take control of Batman as they explore an open world environment filled with new enemies and challenges. Gameplay includes engaging in hand-to-hand combat with adversaries using a variety of gadgets available such as Batarangs or grappling hooks for climbing up buildings or gliding through the air. Players can also investigate crime scenes looking for clues that will help them unravel the mystery behind Strange's schemes.

The game features cameos from many famous DC superheroes like Catwoman, Nightwing and Robin who are playable characters at certain points during the story mode offering unique abilities that can be employed when exploring or fighting enemies.
