Aegis Wing is a side-scrolling space combat game for Xbox Live Arcade, inspired by classic eighties arcade games like Gradius and Defender. Up to four players can join together on the same console or online, with up to three additional players attaching their ships to the leader's ship and becoming independent gun turrets. Aegis Wing is set in outer space, where players take control of small ships called "AEGIS" that have been sent out on a mission to repel the invading forces of the alien race known as the "Araxians". Players must battle their way through wave after wave of enemies while also dodging obstacles in order to reach each level’s end boss. The game features various power-ups such as shields, weapons upgrades and bombs, which can all be used strategically to help defeat enemies more quickly.

The main draw of Aegis Wing is its cooperative multiplayer mode – four players can join forces against waves of increasingly difficult enemies. This mode allows for some great teamplay opportunities; one player might focus on taking out enemy turrets while another provides cover fire from behind.
